Key facts

How it is generally used

1. Read the label and follow the directions given by your pharmacist or doctor.
2. Cleanse the affected area gently and allow the skin to dry before applying the gel.
3. Start slowly if your clinician agrees, using a pea-sized amount in a thin layer. More product will not make acne clear faster.
4. Keep the gel away from the eyes, lips, mouth and broken skin. Wash your hands after applying it.
5. Use a gentle moisturiser if dryness develops, and use sunscreen during the day because retinoids can increase sensitivity to sunlight.
6. Stop and seek advice if severe irritation, marked swelling or a painful reaction develops.

Who should speak to a clinician first

Speak to a pharmacist or doctor before using adapalene if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Ask for advice if you have very sensitive or damaged skin, are planning a cosmetic procedure, use other acne medicines or develop worsening irritation. Your clinician can confirm the application area, amount and frequency, which are the practical factors affecting tube duration.

Frequently asked questions

How long does 15G adapalene last?

No fixed tube duration is provided for this product. It depends on the amount prescribed, how much is applied, the size of the treatment area and how often it is used. Follow your clinician’s instructions and check the label rather than using another person’s estimate. The 15G size alone cannot give a reliable duration.

What is Adapalene 0.1% Gel used for?

Adapalene 0.1% Gel is used for mild to moderate acne, including pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. It is a topical retinoid. Suitability varies, so speak to a pharmacist or doctor about your skin, the treatment area and any other products or medicines you use.

How should I start using adapalene?

Clean and dry the skin, then use a thin layer and a pea-sized amount only as directed. Starting slowly may help reduce irritation if your clinician agrees. Avoid the eyes, lips and broken skin. Use moisturiser for dryness and sunscreen during the day. Do not change the amount to make a tube last longer.

Can I use Adaferin gel during pregnancy?

Speak to a doctor before using Adaferin gel if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Do not start, stop or change a prescription retinoid without professional advice. Tell the clinician about other acne treatments, cosmetic procedures and skincare products you use before deciding how to proceed.

What if my skin becomes dry or acne appears worse?

Dryness, redness or irritation can occur with topical retinoids, and acne may appear worse at first. Do not apply extra gel to compensate. Stop and seek advice if the reaction is severe, painful or does not settle. A pharmacist or doctor can review the routine and advise whether the product should continue.
