Description
Description
Lipidz barrier repair cream for the face
Lipidz Rapid Barrier Repair Cream is a face moisturiser in a 50ml tube, supplied without its outer box. The label names hyaluronic acid, ceramide, squalene and lecithin, with a strength for each. It is for facial use, not nappy or incontinence care.
It may suit someone using tretinoin or another topical retinoid. The maker describes it as a non-oily, non-sticky face moisturiser; how it feels can vary by person.
Key facts
| Product | Lipidz Rapid Barrier Repair Cream |
|---|---|
| Type | Cosmetic face moisturiser |
| Size and format | 50ml cream in a tube |
| Presentation | Supplied without the outer box |
| Named ingredients | Hyaluronic acid, ceramide, squalene and lecithin |
| Texture wording | The maker describes it as non-oily and non-sticky |
Labelled ingredients and strengths
The label lists these amounts. The roles below describe the ingredients generally, not a guaranteed effect from this cream.
| Ingredient | Labelled strength | Plain role |
|---|---|---|
| Hyaluronic acid | 0.10% w/w | A humectant used to support skin hydration. |
| Ceramide | 0.50% w/w | One of the lipid classes found in the outer skin layer. |
| Squalene | 2.00% w/w | A skin-surface lipid that has been discussed as an emollient. |
| Lecithin | 0.50% w/w | A phospholipid used in cosmetic formulations, including as an emulsifier. |
Squalene is distinct from squalane, its saturated derivative. Ceramides are one part of the outer skin layer’s lipid matrix, alongside cholesterol and free fatty acids. The four labelled ingredients do not include cholesterol or free fatty acids, so they do not show that this cream recreates the full matrix.
Check the tube for the full ingredient list before use, especially if you need to avoid a particular ingredient.
Using a face moisturiser with retinoids
Topical retinoids commonly cause dryness and irritation. UK information for a tretinoin and clindamycin medicine also lists these effects; its frequency details apply to that medicine. Read the Treclin product information.
Small studies of other moisturisers used alongside retinoids reported better tolerability for some participants. One tested a moisturiser with adapalene in 30 healthy adults; another studied tretinoin with a ceramide-precursor moisturiser. Neither study tested Lipidz. See the adapalene study and the tretinoin study.
For help choosing a moisturiser, see our tretinoin moisturiser guide. Our barrier cream for retinoid users collection shows the wider range; this page covers Lipidz and its label.
How to use Lipidz
- Read the ingredient list and directions on the tube.
- Patch test as directed on the packaging.
- Apply a small amount to the face as directed. Keep it away from the eyes and lips.
- When using tretinoin or another retinoid, follow your prescriber’s instructions and the medicine leaflet. The cited evidence does not establish one application order for everyone.
- Use it as often as the tube directs. Stop if irritation occurs and ask a pharmacist or prescriber if unsure.
For daytime use with a topical retinoid, follow the medicine leaflet and clinician advice on sun protection. Browse our SPF 50 sunscreen range. Lipidz does not provide sun protection.
Limits and when to seek advice
This cosmetic moisturiser is not for managing eczema or dermatitis. Ask a pharmacist or GP about severe, persistent or worsening rash or itch. Read NHS advice about itchy skin.
Frequently asked questions
What does this barrier cream do?
It is a face moisturiser in a 50ml tube with labelled strengths for hyaluronic acid, ceramide, squalene and lecithin. The label describes the cream’s ingredients, but does not establish a particular result for the finished product. “Barrier repair cream” is its category wording, not proof of a medical effect.
What is in Lipidz cream?
The label gives hyaluronic acid at 0.10% w/w, ceramide at 0.50% w/w, squalene at 2.00% w/w and lecithin at 0.50% w/w. These strengths are not a full ingredient list. Check the tube for all ingredients, precautions and directions before use.
Is squalene the same as squalane?
No. Squalane is the saturated derivative of squalene. The label names squalene at 2.00% w/w. Check the tube’s ingredient list before use if you need to avoid a particular ingredient.
Can I use this moisturiser with tretinoin?
Small studies of other moisturisers used with topical retinoids reported better tolerability for some participants, but did not test Lipidz. Follow your prescriber’s advice and the tretinoin leaflet. If your skin becomes irritated, stop and ask your prescriber or pharmacist.
Should moisturiser go before or after tretinoin?
Follow your prescriber’s instructions and the medicine leaflet. The evidence cited here does not establish one application order or a universal waiting time.
This page gives cosmetic product information, not medical advice. Patch test as directed on the packaging. Individual experience can vary.

Tretinoin Usage Guide for beginners:
Step 1: Start Low
- Begin with the 0.025% concentration, especially if you've never used Tretinoin or Retin-A before.
Step 2: Apply at Night
- Use Tretinoin as the final step in your nighttime routine.
- Apply a pea-sized amount to your face, avoiding:
- Corners of the nose
- Mouth
- Lips (as these areas are more sensitive).
Step 3: Protect Against Sun
- Tretinoin increases sun sensitivity. Always:
- Use a broad-spectrum SPF50 sunscreen during the day.
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure.
Step 4: Moisturize
- Combat dryness by:
- Using a hydrating moisturizer after Tretinoin or as part of your daytime routine.
Step 5: Consult & Educate
- Seek advice from a dermatologist or research proper usage and precautions before starting.

This stuff is amazing. I had started using tretinoin on my face and totally underestimated the effects this would have on my face. My face was sore, peeling, rough and highly coloured. I was unable to wear foundation on my skin as the peeling was so bad. I used this cream overnight and it completely healed all the peeling and made a huge difference to my skin, My face feels really soft too. An absolute must if you are using tretinoin.
